Open battery access door and disconnect negative battery cable.
Open left side engine access doors, tag and disconnect Iow fuel level/auxiliary fuel pump float switch (40, FIG-
URE 2-26) electrical connector.
Remove screws (37), Iockwashers (36), flatwashers (39), float switch (40), and gasket (41) from fuel tank.
Cover opening in fuel tank.
Testing.
Shut down generator set.
Remove low fuel level/auxiliary fuel pump float switch, paragraph 2-91-2.
Position float switch in vertical position, similar to position as installed in fuel tank.
Set multimeter for ohms and connect positive lead to pin 2 for top float and negative lead to pin 1 for top float
of float switch electrical connector.
With upper or lower float moving toward the down position, multimeter should indicate continuity 1/4-inch before
float reaches the down position.
Move upper float to the full up position, multimeter should indicate open circuit.
Disconnect multimeter Ieads from pins 1 and 2 and connect positive lead to pins 3 and negative lead to pin of
electrical connector.
Repeat steps e and f, except with lower float.
Replace low fuel leveI/auxiliary fuel pump float switch if indications are other than above.
Install low fuel level/auxiliary fuel pump float switch, paragraph 2-91-4.
Loosen float switch plate adjusting nut.
Remove cove in fuel tank opening.
Thoroughly clean mating surfaces for new gasket (41, FIGURE 2-26). Ensure no foreign material enters fuel
tank. Apply sealant (item 21, Appendix C) to both sides of gasket (41 ).
Position gasket (41, FIGURE 2-26) and float switch (40) in fuel tank.
Install screws (37), Iockwashers (36), and flatwashers (39).
Set float stem 1/16-inch from bottom of fuel tank. Tighten float switch adjusting nut.
Connect electrical connector, remove tag and close left side engine access doors.
Connect negative battery cable. Close battery access door.
