2-62.4 Installation.
a.
Install cranking relay (6, FIGURE 2-16) with screws (5) in output box assembly.
b. Connect electrical leads to cranking relay as tagged and remove tags.
c.
Install control box top panel, paragraph 2-16.4.
d. Connect negative battery cable and close access door.

Shut down generator set.
Open left side engine access door and disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove control box top panel, paragraph 2-16.1.
Inspect preheat relay (10, FIGURE 2-16) for dents, cracks, stripped studs, and missing parts.
Install control box top panel, paragraph 2-16.4.
Connect negative battery cable and close access door.
Removal.
Shut down generator set.
Open left side engine access door and disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove control box top panel, paragraph 2-16.1.
Tag and disconnect electrical leads from preheat relay (10, FIGURE 2-16).
Remove bolts (7), Iockwashers (8), washers (9), and relay (10) from output box.
Testing.
Shut down generator set.
Open left side engine access door and disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove control box top panel, paragraph 2-16.1.
Tag and disconnect wires from preheat relay (10, FIGURE 2-16) terminals 1, 2 and 3. See FIGURE 2-17 for
terminal positions.
Connect a jumper wire between terminals 1 and 4.
Connect negative battery cable.
Connect wire to terminal 2 disconnected in step d and listen for audible actuation.
Set multimeter for ohms and check for continuity between terminals 3 and 4. If no continuity is indicated preheat
relay is defective and must be replaced.
Disconnect negative battery cable.
If replacement is not required, remove jumper wire and connect remaining wires to preheat relay as tagged.
Install control box top panel, paragraph 2-16.4.
Connect negative battery cable and close access door.
