2-7 GENERAL. This section provides information and
guidance for generator set operation under normal
conditions, refer to FM 20-31.

ASSEMBLY AND PREPARATION FOR USE.
2-8.1
Installation of Ground Rod.
WARNING
Do not operate the generator set until
it has been connected to a suitable
ground. Serious injury or death can
result from operating an ungrounded
generator set.
a.
Insert ground cable (2, FIGURE 2-4)
through slot on load output terminal

GND
(1).
Tighten terminal nut.
b.
Connect coupling (5) to ground rod (4)
and screw driving stud (3) into coupling
(5). Make sure that driving stud (3)
seats on ground rod (4).
c.
Drive ground rod into ground until
coupling is just above surface.
d.
Remove driving stud and install another
section of ground rod.
e.
Install another coupling (5) and driving
stud (3). Drive ground rod down until
new coupling is just above ground
surface.
f.
Repeat steps d and e until ground rod
has been driven eight feet or deeper,
providing an effective ground.
g.
Connect clamp (6) and ground cable (2)
to ground rod (4) and tighten clamp
screw.

Installation of Load Cables.
WARNING
Never
attempt
to
connect
or
disconnect load cables while the
generator set is running. Failure to
observe this warning could result in
severe personal injury or death by
electrocution.
CAUTION
Do not connect the load cables to the
convenience receptacle. Failure to
observe this caution can result in
damage to the generator set.

Shutdown generator set.
