WARNING
Wheels must be blocked, brakes set,
and leg prop down in support
position before attempting to roll up
the tarpaulin and before starting to
assemble or set up equipment for
operation.

Preparation for Starting.
(1)
Remove canvas tarpaulin, roof bows,
splash shield, and racks.
(2)
Remove all loose auxiliary items that
might block air flow through the trailer and around the
generator sets.
CAUTION
It is of foremost importance that
there be free circulation of air around
the generator sets at all times during
operation.

Grounding
WARNING
Never operate the generator set until
it
has
been
properly
grounded.
Electrical defects in the load lines or
equipment
can
cause
death
by
electrocution.
(1)
The ground may be any of three methods,
depending on the location and the terrain.
(a)
A ground rod driven to a depth of 8
feet.
(b)
An
underground
metallic
water
piping system.
(c)
A metal plate (9 square ft.) buried to
a depth of 4 feet.
(2)
The ground lead must be No. 6 AWG
copper wire bolted or clamped to the rod, plate, or piping
system.
(3)
Connect the other end of the ground lead
to the trailer ground terminal.
d.
Servicing. Service the generators as described
in TM 5-6115-332-12. Install the engine oil drain hoses.
Connect the load lines to the proper terminals on the
power transfer switchbox (Fig. 20-3).

WARNING
Never operate the generator set in an
enclosed area unless exhaust gases
are piped outside. Inhalation of
exhaust fumes may result in serious
illness or death.
