21-4. Starting
WARNING
Never operate the generator set in an
enclosed area unless exhaust gases
are piped outside. Inhalation of
exhaust fumes may result in serious
illness or death.

Perform the pre-starting operations in TM
5-6115-450-15.
b.
Position the transfer switch to the desired
generator.
c.
Start the generator as prescribed in TM
5-6115-450-15.
21-5. Stopping.
Stop the generator as described in TM 5-6115-450-15.
21-6. Operation
Operate the generator set as instructed in TM
5-6115-450-15. Use the fuel transfer valve to perform
fuel transfer operations from the set mounted 5-gallon
can to the remote cans.
Section III. OPERATOR'S MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Operator's maintenance of the power unit is concerned
with keeping the generator sets lubricated; the fuel cans
filled; the battery electrolyte level maintained; and
cleaning and servicing the fuel filters and air cleaners as
described in TM 5-6115-450-15. Removal of dust and
dirt from the equipment is also a routine maintenance
function of the operator.
Section IV. ORGANIZATIONAL MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
21-7. Tarpaulin and Roof Bows
a.
Removal.
(1)
Remove tarpaulin from unit.
(2)
Pull out chain-secured pins that secure
roof bows to trailer and remove bows.
b.
Cleaning and Inspection.
(1)
Clean tarpaulin and bows with water and
detergent. Dry thoroughly.
(2)
Inspect tarpaulin for tears, holes, broken
or missing ropes and straps, and other defects. Inspect
bows for cracks, bends, or other defects.
c.
Installation. Installation is reverse of procedure
a above. Be sure tarpaulin is treated for waterproofing
and mildew resistance before reinstalling.
21-8. Transfer Switch Indicating Lamp Replacement
Unscrew defective lamp from switch box and remove
gasket. Install gasket on replacement lamp and screw
into base socket in distribution box.

21-9. Generator Set
a.
Removal.
(1)
Disconnect remote fuel line at three-way
valve.
(2)
Disconnect electrical leads and load
cables.
(3)
Disconnect oil drain adapter.
(4)
Remove the battery.
(5)
Disconnect the exhaust pipe (front engine
only).
(6)
Remove nuts, washers, and capscrews
that secure generator set to trailer body and remove
generator set.
b.
Installation. Installation is reverse of removal,
procedure a above. Make sure that the beveled
washers are properly positioned so that generator set is
securely mounted to the trailer body.
