4-1-1A. Disassembly (Model 8MR3005CA).
a.
Remove terminal nuts (33, Figure 4-8), bolts (34), voltage regulator (35), and gasket (36) from rear
housing (46)
Disconnect voltage regulator quick disconnect terminals from brush assembly (38).
b.
Remove screws (37) and brush assembly (38) from rear housing (46)
c.
Remove nuts (33, 39), washers (40, 41, 42). Remove sleeve insulators (43, 44)
d.
Match mark front and rear housings, and remove thru-bolts (45)
Do not insert screwdriver blades deeper than 1/16 in. (1.587 mm) to avoid damaging
stator winding.
e.
Insert two flat tip screw drivers in opposite openings between stator (50) and rear housing (46) and
pry units apart, refer to Figure 4-1. Remove insulating washers (40, 42, Figure 4-8).
f.
Remove rear housing (46, Figure 4-8) and stator (50) from front housing (59).
g.
Remove stator leads from positive and negative diodes (47, 48). Disconnect diode trio (49) leads
from positive diode (48).
h.
Remove nut (51), lockwasher (52), fan (53), spacer (54), and woodruff key (55) from rotor assembly
(56) shaft.
i.
Using arbor press, remove rotor assembly (56) from front housing (59).
j.
Remove bearing retainer (57) and press bearing (58) from front housing (59)
4-1-2. lnspection (Both Models).
a.
Inspect brushes for cracks, grooves on sides, being oil soaked, and that they are at least 3/16 in.
(4.76 mm) long.
b.
Inspect rear housing for cracked or broken casting, stripped threads, and severe wear of rear bearing
bore.
c.
Inspect fan for cracked or broken fins and for worn mounting hole.
d.
Inspect front housing for cracked or broken casting, stripped threads, and bore in mounting foot for
elongation.
e.
Inspect other components for damage such as broken terminals or insulation, discoloration, stripped
threads, and other obvious damage.
f
Replace damaged components as necessary
