ARMY TM 9-6115-644-24
AIR FORCE TO 35C2-3-446-12
MARINE CORPS TM 09249A/09246A-24/2
It will be necessary to bar (turn) engine in order to position a specific area of the ro-
tating rectifier at one of the end bell access holes. Use center bolt on harmonic
balancer to turn engine, refer toTM9-2815- 255-24.
Unsolder electrical lead from diode (6, FIGURE 4-12) being removed.
Remove nut (7), Iockwasher (8), and diode (6) from rotating rectifier assembly through access hole in end bell.
Run bead of thermal-electrical contact compound (Item 9, Appendix C) around base of diode (6, FIGURE 4-12)
prior to installing. Do not coat threads.
b. Insert diode (6) through generator end bell access hole, and install on rotating rectifier plate with Iockwasher
(8) and nut (7). Torque nut (7) 28 to 30in-lbs. (3.16 to 3.38 Nm).
Using solder (Item 19, Appendix C) and soldering iron, solder electrical lead to diode (6).
d. Install generator end bell top cover and louvered covers, paragraph 4-19-2, step f.
Install generator set housing rear panel, paragraph 2-18-4.
Connect negative battery cable and close battery access door.
4-19 END BELL AND MAIN BEARING.
a. Shutdown generator set.
b. Open battery access door and disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove generator set housing rear panel, paragraph 2-18-1.
Remove bolts (1, FIGURE 4-14), Iockwashers (2), top rover (3), and louvered covers (4) from end bell (5).
The end bell supports the main rotor, thus the rotor will drop on the stator once the end
bell is removed. Prior to proceeding, bar engine by using center bolt on harmonic balanc-
er, TM 9-2815-255-24, until two main rotor poles are vertical in generator stator. Having
the rotor in this position will limit the amount of drop, otherwise damage to rotor and/or
stator could occur.
Remove bolts (6) and Iockwashers (7) from end bell (5).
Install two bolts (6) in backout holes in end bell flange, refer to FIGURE 4-13.
Loosen lead clamp assembly (33, FIGURE 4-14) damping generator leads at side of generator housing. Ensure
that wires F1 and F2 are free to slide in and out of generator housing.
Remove end bell (5), with exciter stator (16) attached, by tightening bolts (6) evenly into back-out holes.
Remove preformed packing (9) from end bell (5).
